Giving Games4Haiti

If you've come here chances are you're wanting to know more about how you can help raise  some much needed funds for our Hope4Haiti initiative to rebuild our adopted school, Institution Mixte Nao Community School, in Darbonne, Leogane, Haiti.

Our Kids4Good group is conducting a Giving Games collection as one of just many ways we intend to raise significant funds for the rebuilding project for our friend Maxandre and his staff and students at IMN.

In the weeks since the devastating quake, students throughout District 61 have been actively participating in various fundraising events.  Through our Giving Games4Haiti effort we've raised nearly $1,000 in the past month.

We're providing details on this particular effort in hopes that your organization may consider organizing their own Giving Games event.

If you're visiting our site from facebook or some other means, welcome! We hope you'll find the information below to be of some use as you consider organizing your own Giving Games collection.  We believe this is a simple, unique and effective way to involve your community in a worthwhile undertaking which stands to benefit many during this critical time of need.

The entire purpose of this initiative is to try and raise as much money as possible to donate towards our Hope4Haiti initiative, to rebuild our adopted school in Darbonne, Haiti.

WHAT IS GIVING GAMES?

This is a simple way for kids to get involved in raising funds through the donation of used video games and gaming systems that they no longer use.

Check below for examples of what your games and/or gaming systems may be worth.  We simply trade-in all donations for cash with 100% of all funds collected going directly toward our rebuild project.

If you're conducting your own Giving Games collection, you may choose whatever organization you'd like.  We recommend that you visit your local video store to confirm that they will accept a large volume of trade-ins.  We work with GameStop here in Darien.  We've also found working with Disc Replay, in Downers Grove, to be a very good resource for trading in older games as well as DVD's.  They only ask that we provide proof that we're affiliated with a school or non-for-profit.  Again, just check with management first.

HOW LONG WILL THE GIVING GAMES COLLECTION LAST?

Our collection will run through the end of February.   That being said, the need will be long-term and ongoing.  You can consider organizing this type of event anytime.

If you're donating to the District 61 Giving Games4Haiti collection, we'll be accepting donations at Lace School in Darien, IL.  We're located at 7414 Cass Avenue and the phone is:  630-968-2589.  We have a collection box by the Main Office.

Once again, if you're conducting a separate Giving Games collection, you have the flexibility to have this run as long as you'd like.  We've just found that two weeks is usually a good timeframe in which to run this.

WHAT GAMES/GAMING SYSTEMS DO YOU ACCEPT:  (Again, this is based on our local arrangement with GameStop and may vary depending on where you're based)  Again, in our area we've got Disc Replay and they accept older games and DVD's as mentioned above.

PS2
PS3
GameCube
XBOX 360
Wii

PSP
Nintendo DS
GameBoy Advance

All games that play on any of the above systems will be accepted as well.

IMPORTANT NOTE:  All game systems must be turned in with connection/power cords and at least one remote control.  Any handhelds should be turned in with charging cords and/or accompanying stylus.

A QUICK GLANCE AT WHAT A GAME OR SYSTEM MAY YIELD:Again, these amounts are approximate and based on our local GameStop.  Trade-in will vary depending on the generation of gaming system traded, etc.

PSP System:  Trade-in Value:  Range from $30 to $50 based on version of game

Nintendo DS:  Trade-in value:  $20

DSLite:  Trade-in value:  $30

Some Gameboy Advance Games can yield up to $8.00.

XBox Call of Duty game:  Trade-in: $20

As you can see from these examples, some significant funds can be raised through this collection.

WHO CAN CONDUCT A GIVING GAMES COLLECTION?

We encourage anyone to organize their own Giving Game Video Game Collection.  If you're part of a team, have your team donate games.  If you're involved in a school group, organize your own Giving Game Drive.  We all have a game or two to spare.

All we ask is if you're organizing your own Giving Game collection that you share your success with us via email.  Simply email:  cynthia@kids4good.org and update us on how your collection went.  We'd love to showcase your efforts here on our site.
